About

I was born in Antalya in 1985 and graduated from Kırıkkale University with a degree in International Relations. I'm married and a mother of three. I spent eight years in journalism in Istanbul — four years as a reporter, then four years as a section editor and writer on family, health, and life.

From the well to the lotus

In 2017, on the strength of my professional record, I received the Extraordinary Ability Green Card (EB1) — also known as the Einstein visa — and settled in America. Building a new life in a country whose language and culture we did not know was never easy. We were alone; doors closed in our faces. In that retreat and solitude you are left alone with yourself, and everything buried in the subconscious surfaces one by one. That well would either pull me deeper, or I would learn to climb out. As hard as it was, I chose the second.

Since writing was my craft, I began sharing what helped me and what I came to understand on social media. Just when I thought I had grown estranged from writing, I realized my healing was in writing itself. Finding an echo in people I had never met set me on a journey — we began to heal together. And out of the sum of every experience, The Lotus Effect emerged.
